Inspired by the 2015 trial of Juliana v. United States, in which young plaintiffs sought to hold the government accountable for the impacts of climate change, this mural explores themes of environmental responsibility, connection, and hope. As the second mural in a series focused on climate awareness, the piece uses triangular puzzle-like forms painted to resemble sedimentary rock, representing the layers of Earth’s history and the interconnected systems that sustain life. The central composition features Spencer Butte, an iconic Eugene landmark and symbol of the natural landscapes we strive to protect. Through imagery of place and preservation, the mural reflects the importance of clean water, fertile soil, fresh air, and collective action in caring for our environment.
